Herd Philosophy
When building our herd, we targeted three key areas to help us find the right genetics that we feel are the right combination to help today’s producers improve their commercial cow/calf operation and improve profits.
1. Proven History – Our herd has a rich history that is influenced by well over 100 years of combined expert breeding by some of the best in the world including Gardiner, Hinkle’s Prime Cut and Quartermaster Creek on the Angus side along with Hatfield and Suhn on the Brangus side.
2. Traits – We felt strongly that the cow is just as important as the bull when it comes to raising good calves. That is why we choose Brangus mommas to be the backbone of our JL “Superblack” herd for their milk producing capabilities. We then focused on traits like Calving Ease, Maternal Milk, Docility, Marbling, Ribeye and Carcass Grid Value.
3. Targeting the Brand with Certified Angus Beef – We felt that the traits that influence a higher store price should also be important to commercial producers and our Sires meet those requirements.
